North Shore Chamber Arts Ensemble’s Artistic Director David Rubens announces the ensemble’s 2011-2012 season.

Performing in the intimate setting of North Shore United Methodist Church, 213 Hazel in Glencoe, Illinois, they will begin their season on Sunday, October 2nd with a children’s concert, Animal Crackers. It will feature Albert Wang, violinist of the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago and Phillip Serna, bassist in solo performances of pieces about Ferdinand the Bull and the Big Bad Wolf. The entire ensemble will perform in the original 11
instrument version of Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. Narration plus video and recorded animal sounds will be included.

On Sunday December 4th the Ensemble will perform Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah with soloists Nancy Wiebe Mazurowsky, soprano, Jay Morrissey, tenor and Elliot Nott Baritone. The Chamber Arts Ensemble, plus the 12 voice Chamber Art Singers will perform an edition by Maestro Rubens that returns to Handel’s original 18th century performance practice which included both harpsichord and organ along with the orchestra.

On Sunday, December 18th, ensemble members and friends will close the holiday season with a free concert entitled Cocoa, Cookies and Carols. Traditional Christmas and Chanukah music plus other holiday favorites will be included. Set against original poems and stories, the hour long concert, plus free cookies and cocoa, will create those warm cuddly holiday feelings and add a dash of the seasonal insanity we all experience getting ready for candle lighting, tree trimming, gift giving, dreidel spinning and Santa.

On Sunday, May 18th the ensemble will explore works by John Sebastian Bach’s sons in The Bach Boys. The forward looking works by J.C. Bach, his big brother C.P.E. Bach plus their brother Wilhelm Friedemann Bach show us where the elements Mozart and Haydn’s classical style originated. J.C. Bach was as successful an opera composer as Mozart while Wilhelm and C.E.P Bach’s symphonic works led the way to the mature symphonic works of the late 18th century. Included on the program are C.P.E. Bach’s Symphony in D major, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach’s Sinfonia in d minor plus J.C. Bach’s aria Arsinda from his opera La Clemensa Di Scipione and his Astarto Overture.

All Concerts are on Sundays and begin at 4 P.M at North Shore United Methodist Church located in Glencoe, IL at 213 Hazel Ave.
